Harrogate man aims to get Britain singing

Music lover Brian Davies has come up with a business idea that seems destined to hit the high notes.

Yorkshire-based Brian is one of the men behind Choir Nation, a venture aiming to establish a nationwide network of rock and pop choirs.

He wants the groups to meet weekly in cities and other major urban centres across the UK, operating separately but at the same time coming under the general Choir Nation umbrella.

Groups will receive guidance and training from Brian and his fellow national organisers as well as suggestions on songs to practise and perform.

And the idea already has a high-profile fan in the shape of Craig Revel Horwood, known to millions as a judge on TV's Strictly Come Dancing show.

He heard about Choir Nation as he is a pal of Allan Rogers, a composer and producer who is Brian's partner in the venture.

Craig, currently preparing to oversee a run of musical Spend, Spend, Spend! at Leeds's West Yorkshire Playhouse, said: "People can have lots of fun singing together without the worry of anyone like me judging them."

Brian, who lives in Harrogate and runs Leeds community choir Good In

Parts, wants the emphasis of the get-togethers to be on having fun.

He said: "Our aim is to make singing available to the widest possible cross-section of the community. If you ever sing in the shower or along to the radio, you'll feel right at home with Choir Nation!"
