The playground on the park at Grove Road was dismantled three years ago because of anti-social behaviour, leaving children in the Templegate estate area without anywhere suitable to play.

Now, with the backing of local councillor Bill Hyde, plans for a new safe play area have been put forward, but set further back from local houses in the centre of the recreation ground.

It would have equipment suitable for children aged one to eight and be surrounded by a small fence at an estimated cost of 70,000.

Before plans can go ahead the views of local parents and residents are being sought.

Councillor Hyde (Cons,Temple Newsam) said: "I believe that this new facility would be great for the community and provide a much needed place of local children to play safely.

"The views of local residents are needed before we can move forward to the next stage and I therefore urge people to write to me. Without the support of the community it is unlikely that the plans will go ahead."

Councillor Hyde can be contacted via email at: william.hyde@leeds.gov.uk

Alternatively by writing to him at the Civic Hall, Leeds LS1 1UR or 8 Kirkfield View, Colton, LS15 9DX.
