Guiseley street attack: Man dies

A middle-aged man has died in hospital after suffering serious head injuries in an assault near a Guiseley bar.

The 48-year-old Yeadon man had been in a criitcal and later "very poorly" condition in Leeds General Infimary after being injured in the street close to Martha's Ale House, Well Lane, near The Green, at about

9pm on Sunday September 20.

He died at the Infimary on Tuesday this week.

Immediately after the man was hurt detectives launched an investigation to discover how he had come by his injuries and a man was arrested in connection with the incident. They also seized footage from local closed-circuit TV security cameras in the search for evidence of who was responsible.

Later Jonathan Atkins,26, of Oxford Street, Guiseley, was charged with Section 20 assault in relation to the incident and appeared at Leeds Magistrates Court. He is next due to appear on Friday, October 9.
