Guiseley: Pool lifeguards to the rescue as man collapses

Lifeguards helped rescue a drowning man from Aireborough Leisure Centre's swimming pool after he collapsed.

The 40-year-old man is reported to have blacked out climbing from the pool at Aireborough Leisure Centre on Thursday, November 12.

The man was lifted from the water and pool attendants attempted to revive him before paramedics arrived and took over the resuscitation procedure.

The man was transferred to Bradford Royal Infirmary where he was in a stable but improving condition. The swimming pool was closed by police for several hours but it was reopened later.

A Leeds City Council spokesman said: "Lifeguards at the leisure centre rescued a man who got into difficulties in the water and carried out first aid treatment until paramedics arrived.

"The pool was closed for a short period of time immediately after the incident but is now open as usual. All pools in Leeds have fully trained lifeguards on duty and this incident demonstrates the vital role they perform."
