Guiseley mill plan refused
Plans to demolish a former textile mill in Guiseley and build housing and a care home on the site have been rejected by councillors.
An outline application for the scheme at Springhead Mill, Springfield Road, was submitted to Leeds City Council by Springhead Development No1 Ltd.

The mill dates back to 1842 and, although no longer operating as a textile mill, some of the buildings are used by small businesses.

A report to the council's west plans panel, which voted to refuse consent, said the planning department had received 54 letters of objection to the application and two letters of support.
Among the objections were that the proposed development was out of character with the area, loss of privacy, increased noise and disturbance, loss of traditional buildings and the scale and proportions of the new homes to be built were "too excessive."
Objectors also raised concerns that the development could increase traffic congestion in the area and add to the on-street parking problems from which the neighbourhood already suffered.
The report concluded that after careful consideration, the proposed development was unacceptable and did not comply with the council's planning policies.
While acknowledging the application was an outline proposal, it added the indicative layout was not of an acceptable quality and failed to make a positive contribution towards the character of the area.
Springhead Mill was one of a dozen mills that were the economic bedrock of Guiseley during Victorian times.
Most have now been demolished.
