Garforth road scheme wins approval
Council bosses have given the go-ahead to a road safety scheme in Garforth.
The city council is spending nearly 300,000 on the work at the junction of the A63 Selby Road and B6137 Leeds Road, known locally as Charlie Sweeps Corner.
Improvements at the junction, on the edge of Garforth, will include new traffic signals, pedestrian crossing facilities and bus lay-bys.
Coun Stuart Andrew, lead member for transport at the Tory and Lib Dem-controlled council, said the scheme would reduce travel times and improve safety for both drivers and pedestrians.
Approval for the work was welcomed today by Coun James Lewis (Lab, Kippax and Methley).
He said the council had previously argued there was insufficient demand for a crossing at the junction.
"I'm absolutely delighted that it has changed its mind," Coun Lewis said.
