The club, which has over 500 members and supporters, with the facilities being used on a daily basis by the local community, is open seven nights a week as well as during the day on Saturdays and Sundays.

Councillor Clive Fox (Cons, Adel & Wharfedale) told Horsforth Today: "We are always pleased to help thriving community associations that put so much back into the local area. The inside of the clubhouse has been suffering considerably whenever it rained heavily and a new roof on this building will be a great benefit to this sports club for many years to come."

Councillor Les Carter (Cons, Adel & Wharfedale) said: "The Old Modernians clubhouse is a very well used facility and a popular choice of venue for people in the local community looking to hold functions. We have been aware of the problems associated with the roof for some time now and I am very pleased that we have been able to help this highly valued sports and social club resolve the problem."

Councillor Barry Anderson (Conservative, Adel & Wharfedale) said:

"The clubhouse is a huge asset to the local community, providing a gathering place for spectators, members and players at the sports club. It is also well used by other members of the public for community events and private functions.

It is important that we support associations such as these and I am happy that we have been able to offer them financial assistance to help improve the clubhouse building."
