In his report, inspector Clive Moss said the curriculum was "broad and balanced" and lessons were "structured with precision". Pupils also had "excellent vocabulary", displayed "exemplary behaviour" and "enjoy

their education greatly."

Headteacher Juliet Agar, who is retiring this summer after 13 years in charge, told the YEP: "To be able to leave on such a high is brilliant and I'm sure the school will continue improving and go from strength to strength.

"I'm particularly pleased that the inspectors recognised the whole school team approach. The reason we were outstanding is because of a combination of the way the pupils behave, the way the parents support us and the quality of the staff."

In the report, praise is given to Mrs Agar and other senior staff, who have "brought about improvements in the quality of teaching".

Mr Moss is also complimentary towards the school's "well-kept" garden, environmental projects to clean footpaths and make hanging baskets for local businesses, and enterprising activities such as the "smoothie challenge".

The only criticism concerns the governing body, which is "supportive but insufficiently involved" in evaluating the quality of work.

Recommended improvements include pupils evaluating their own progress; questions being directed to pupils in lessons and allowing the governing body to become more involved in evaluating the quality of work.

The report states: "The school provides an outstanding education for its pupils and has improved since the last inspection. There is a strong sense of community at the school. This is reflected in the excellent relationships between pupils of all backgrounds and in pupils' relationships with the staff.

"Pupils' attendance is high and they enjoy being at school very much. The school is regarded very highly by parents and carers."
