Farsley fish frier shortlisted in national competition

A fish fryer from Farsley has proved she is a chip off the old block after reaching the semi-finals of the National Young Fish Fryer of the Year competition.

Jessica Chandler, from Croft Street Fisheries, is following in the footsteps of her brother Rafael, who was a finalist in the competition three years ago.

She decided that when she finished her A levels she wanted to work in the family business rather than go to university.

Jessica said: "I had my eyes on entering the competition since my brother was a finalist in 2006.

"I believe that if a job is worth doing it is worth doing to the best of your ability, and getting so far in this competition is recognition for the hard work I have put in so far."

Jessica was heavily involved in assisting her brother achieve the coveted five-star Friers Quality Award from Seafish earlier in the year.

The winner of the Young Fish Fryer of the Year competition will be announced in January.
