Farsley: £350,000 for all-weather pitch at school

Thousands of pounds of funding has been approved to pave the way to lay an all weather pitch at Priesthorpe School.

Leeds City Council has given the green light for 350,000 to be spent on the facility as part of a wider remodelling project at the school.

New changing rooms have already been built as part of the scheme and the pitch, which has been designed in conjunction with Sport England, can be used by the community when it is not being used by the school.

The funding has come from the Department of Culture Media and Sport as part of the Specialist Sports Colleges Facilities capital grant.

Coun Andrew Carter (Con, Calverley and Farsley) said: "I'm delighted that this funding has been made available.

"The pitch is great news for this popular school, and will also be a great resource for the wider community.

"It is pleasing that we can help promote a healthy lifestyle for local people of all ages, who, as well as enjoying participating in sports, can improve their health, which in turn reduces pressure on the NHS and other hard-pressed services."

Work is expected to be completed during the summer of 2011.
