Although the Heritage Centre is normally open to the public, what is different for the Open Days is that the Society's archives, maps and photographs, not normally available to the public, was made accessible to all.

Volunteers from East Leeds History and Archaeology Society were on hand to show what is available and help with any queries people may have about the East Leeds area.

The Society also ran children's quiz and colouring competitions with prizes available to all who enter.

This year there were two new displays in the Heritage Centre which may prove of interest – children's toys and games from the 50's and 60's and a tribute to the city's Victoria Cross heroes.

This display is particularly poignant during this year, the 90th anniversary of the ending of the 1914-18 War, and interestingly includes details of two Leeds VC holders, Major Samuel Meekosha and Colonel Richard Kirby Ridgeway, whose names, for some reason, do not appear on the Leeds VC memorial situated outside the Art Gallery.
