Crossgates Carnival 2009 is cancelled

Crossgates Carnival organisers have announced this year's event has been cancelled.

The event, now in its 6th year, was scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 27 at Manston Park.

But this will now not take place owing to changes in circumstances of some key volunteers, including coordinator Karen Gray.

Organisers revealed the decision in a statement released to Cross Gates Today.

It read: "The growth and undoubted success of this local community event over the past five years has been largely due to the enthusiastic input of the small but willing band of volunteers who unstintingly gave their time and talents.

"We are grateful for the generous sponorship of the local business sector whose on-going support enabled the carnival promoters to provide this fun day entirely free of cost to the numerous families who attended.

"The Civic seal of approval in the support of the Lord Mayor of Leeds and local authority and the financial help from the ward councillors has been a source of much encouragement to all those involved."
