The 2007 event was one of the few galas in the city to survive the late June downpour.

This year's event will be held from 11am to 3pm on Saturday, June 28, at Manston Park.

Attractions will include a fairground organ, circus skills, football matches, puppet shows, Irish dancing and a drumming circle.

The Lord Mayor of Leeds, Coun Frank Robinson, will attend to officially declare the carnival open.

The carnival is organised by members of Cross Gates Churches Together, a group made up of five local places of worship.

It is set up by an organising team of eight, with up to 80 volunteers helping out on the day.

A donation from Crossgates Shopping Centre means the volunteers will be kitted out in smart new t-shirts.

Karen Gray, who is a member of the organising team, said: "People had a great time last year despite the weather. I haven't dared to look at any long term forecasts but things are shaping up for a really good day. Come and join in the fun."

Karen said any extra pairs of hands willing to help on the day are welcome.
