Crossgates Carnival 2008: Come and join in the fun

The Cross Gates community are looking forward to another day of Carnival fun in Manston Park.

Final preparations are being made for the event being held on Saturday, June 26, from 11am-3pm at Manston Park.

Organisers say visitors looking for a good day out will not be disappointed.

Alongside the usual activities of face painting, bouncy castles football and games, this year also sees the introduction of "Jester Jim" and a chance to have a go at drumming with "Daftasadrum"

The puppets shows and other displays are always a hit, but new for this year are the Irish dancers who are making their first appearance in the park.

The event will also feature singing and dancing by local Rainbows, Brownies & Guides, Tiny Tim the fairground Organ and a mystery entry form the Youth Service!

Carnival coordinator, Karen Gray, told Cross Gates Today: "We're all looking forward to another great day in Manston Park. Our programme is packed this year with both old favourites and new attractions.

"The circus skills area was a real hit last year , so we've brought in Jester Jim to teach young and old some new tricks - we expect the marquee to be overflowing!"

She added: "Most of the plans are coming together – although we still need to find someone who lives on Park Avenue to let us use their electricity for the bouncy castles! It's going to be a great fun filled day for all the family. And of course its all free!"

More than 70 volunteers are expected to turn out to help on Saturday wearing bright yellow t-shirts provided by Crossgates Shopping Centre.

The event is organised by the five churches in Crossgates for the benefit of the whole community.
