Cross Gates resident stabbed as gang try to raid safe

A man suffered stab wounds after masked men burst into his Cross Gates home and demanded access to his safe.

Four men wearing balaclavas forced their way into the house on Church Lane, Cross Gates, at 12.15am on Saturday, November 28.

The home owner was threatened before the men tried to force him to open a safe.

West Yorkshire Police said the man was then assaulted and suffered stab wounds.

The four men then fled with a small amount of property and personal items from the house but failed to get anything from the safe.

All four escaped in a vehicle.

The victim was taken to hospital and was discharged the next morning.

It is believed officers arrested a male suspect just over five hours after the incident, at 5.30am, at an address in Leeds.

The house on Church Lane was sealed off and guarded by police throughout most of Saturday.

An appeal for information has been made to trace the three other suspects.

A police spokesman confirmed a 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

A 23-year-old woman has also been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Both have been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Any witnesses or anyone with information is asked to contact Acting Det Sgt Craig Nichols at Killingbeck CID via 0845 6060606.
