Cross Gates Good Neighbours appoint new project leader
Cross Gates and District Good Neighbours are delighted to announce the appointment of Jane Robinson as Project Leader for their new venture the ' Living History Project'.
Jane, who has a history and politics degree from Bradford University, will take up her post at the beginning of August.
She has a wealth of experience in the voluntary sector since she has spent the last 12 years working in various roles within the Leeds community, most recently as communications manager for Voluntary Action-Leeds (VA-L) . She is particularly looking forward to working on this project since it will involve intergenerational work with the children from Cross Gates Primary School.
The 'Living History Project' has been funded by a grant of over 8,000 from 'Awards for All' a grant scheme operated by the Lottery Fund.
The aim of this project is to harvest the memories and life experiences of the older members of our community, especially around topics featured in the school curriculum, such as the locality, the war years, and childhood. In doing this we will ensure that this valuable social history information is preserved and made available to younger generations.
The project aims to collect people's memories in a variety of ways, for example, by visiting people in their own homes or holding group sessions as part of our regular 'Drop-In' events.
The ultimate aim of the project is to produce a booklet containing all the information collected which will be available to all participants and will make a valuable resource for the community
The project is scheduled to run for 26 weeks.
* If you have a story to tell and want to get involved or would like more information about the project please telephone (0113) 2606565.
