Councillors hit the right note to help pay Horsforth organ bill

A Horsforth church is looking forward to making sweet music again with the restoration of its organ.

The organ at St Margaret's Church was last refurbished more than thirty years ago and has been in need of restoration.

Three Horsforth councillors have donated almost 6,000 from their Members Improvement in the Community and Environment (MICE) fund towards the restoration of the church organ in time for the new year.

Each councillor donated 2,000 from their funds towards the project.

Church warden, Dennis Herbert, said: "The restoration of our organ is beyond ourwildest dreams and it has been extremely helpful as we were struggling because of the creation of the new church extension.

"It couldn't have come at a better time because of the new year and the money has just been an absolute godsend.

"We are really delighted with the help we have received from the local councillors. It has just been fantastic."

As previously reported on Horsforth Today St Margaret's Church will also have a new community centre built onto the side of it.

The 400,000 development will feature meeting rooms, a kitchen and toilets and it will help the church to strengthen ties with the local community.

Local councillors have donated around 20,000 towards the new construction but there is still a long way to go for raising

money to maintain the new centre.

Councillor Chris Townsley (Lib Dem, Horsforth) said: "We are helping them to make music.

"It is something that can be used by all the people who go to the church.

"If we can help people then we will, but sometimes people can be reluctant in coming forward.
