Council upbeat over Roundhay Park Mansion deal
Council chiefs are upbeat about the prospect of securing a new tenant for the Roundhay Mansion as it officially goes on the market this week.
The council has appointed Christie & Co, who specialise in restaurant and caf bar-style opportunities, to oversee the process of securing a suitable tenant and are encouraged that a number of companies have already expressed informal interest and are considering a formal bid.

The council has recently completed an external repair programme to the Mansion, which was purchased by the city of Leeds from the de Lacy family and opened as a public park in 1872 to the present day. The repairs form part of an 8m Roundhay Park Restoration programme which has seen a new Visitor and Education Centre open in November and work being carried out to return the park to its original landscaping.
Andrew Carter, leader of Leeds City Council, said: "The Mansion in Roundhay Park is one of the most iconic and well-loved buildings in the city, so it is very important that we get the right kind of company to run the restaurant and the function facilities.
"It is very encouraging that we have already had enquiries from several interested parties before the advertising has even gone out. We'd love to hear from as many companies as possible, as the more interest we have the more chance we have of providing the best quality service for the people of Leeds to make use of and enjoy."
The Council's Executive Board agreed in December to put the Roundhay Mansion on the market and also agreed to consider making a capital contribution to ensure that high quality bids to operate the building were received.
Jon Patrick, Christie + Co Director and Head of Leisure & Development, added:
"The Mansion is a truly superb Grade II listed development opportunity providing an impressive parkland setting and up to 866 sq m (9,321 sq ft) of floor area with existing licensed and catering planning consents.
"Roundhay Park attracts in the region of 6,000,000 visitors per annum and we believe that a sympathetic restoration and refurbishment project, blended with a high quality business, can combine to create a highly successful destination operation which we consider will hold appeal for a variety of corporate, independent and entrepreneurial operators."
