Cookridge children rescused from blazing home
A family was rescued after a fire broke out at their Cookridge home.
Firefighters were called to the house in Raynel Way in Cookridge in the early hours of Saturday morning. The occupants had become trapped upstairs by flames and smoke caused by an overheated chip pan in the kitchen.
One of the family, aged 14, clambered onto the roof through a dormer window. She was rescued by fire crews using a special roof ladder. Three other children, including a two-year-old, and three adults were rescued through a bedroom window.
Cookridge watch manager Chris Bates said the house did not have a smoke alarm and urged residents to contact their local fire station to have the devices fitted for free.
