Clean up pledge for Pudsey toilets

A block of dilapidated toilets are set to be cleansed after local residents kicked up a stink about the state they were in.

The toilet block in Pudsey Market Square was branded "revolting" and there were fears that they would put people off coming to the market town.

It is understood that there was a problem with urine seeping through the floor tiles which created a bad smell – despite the floor being cleaned regularly.

Coun Richard Lewis (Lab, Pudsey) said: "We are absolutely delighted that a date has finally been set to refurbish the run-down public toilets located in Pudsey's Market Square.

"This is long overdue given the state of the facilities, which can only be currently described as disgusting.

"If we are determined to boost trade for the shops in our community, then it is absolutely vital that we make sure that amenities such as public toilets are of a high standard.

"Work on the project is set to last around last two weeks and we would ask local residents to be patient during this period because the end result will be worth it."

The ladies toilets will be closed from June 7 to June 11 while work is carried out to refurbish them.

Work will start on the men's toilets from June 14 to June 18 but visitors who wish to spend a penny will be able to use the disabled toilet in the meantime.
