Chapeltown: Football kids play for Lotto £50,000
More than 600 young footballers from Chapeltown hope to be on the winning team by netting £50,000 from the Lottery.
Chapeltown Football Youth Development Centre (CFYDC) has been shortlisted in the Yorkshire region for the People's Millions – a partnership between the Big Lottery Fund and ITV.
This week the public can vote for awards of up to 50,000 for projects going head-to-head in the ITV Yorkshire region.
CFYDC provides sports, self development and educational activities for young people from its base at the Prince Philip Centre, on Scott Hall Avenue.
It caters for youngsters aged four to 18 regardless of background, race, ethnicity, religion or gender is open to all regardless of ability or disability.
Organisers are in desperate need of minibuses to take youngsters to games and other events.
Volunteer Dume Ekundayo said: "The minibuses would enable young people to widen their horizons and access opportunities further afield. There are so many more events we would be able to take part in across the region.
"A lot of parents around here do not have cars and we have to spend a lot of money hiring transport to get players to football matches and educational workshops."
The group will be on Calendar tomorrow from 6pm and the results of the vote will be announced the next day. To vote for CFYDC visit www.peoplesmillions.org.uk.
