Calverley pupils display opposition to plastic bags
Youngsters at a Calverley school showed their opposition to the use of plastic bags – by turning them into underpants.
Children at Calverley Parkside Primary and Calverley Church of England schools will wear the improvised underwear during assemblies and breaks this week, and will eventually use the bags to make a giant pair of pants.

The Plastic is Pants week is the brainchild of local resident Lesley Bland, who is spearheading a campaign to get environmentally harmful carrier bags banned from Pudsey and Calverley.

The inspiration for it was taken from a mother and daughter in Harrogate who protested outside a local supermarket with pants made from plastic bags.
Mrs Bland said: "The idea behind the week is that the children will go home and get their parents involved."
