Belle Isle cannabis recipe man is jailed
A 50-year-old Belle Isle man who cooked up cannabis using a recipe book because he suffered pain from a wrist injury has been jailed for 21 months.
Paul Adams, 50, of Middleton Road, Belle Isle, Leeds was charged with drugs offences after police found more than 100g of cannabis and dozens of diazepam tablets at his home.
Bradford Crown Court heard that the police also seized 1,268 during their inquiry and yesterday Recorder Amanda Rippon made a confiscation order for that sum against Adams.
During his trial Adams, who suffered an industrial injury to his wrist, claimed all the drugs were for his personal use and referred to the cookery book which he had used take cannabis.
Recorder Rippon accepted that some of the drug was used to help with the pain, but she said some of the cannabis would also have been sold by him to others for profit.
She described Adams as a "small-scale, commercial dealer".
At the time of his arrest Adams was only eight months into a suspended prison term and Recorder Rippon noted that he also had a previous conviction for supplying drugs. "You're now 50 years of age and I suspect you are a confirmed cannabis user," she told Adams.
Adams was found guilty on charges of possessing drugs with intent to supply and yesterday Recorder Rippon jailed him for 12 months on those offences.
But she added a further nine months in jail in respect of the suspended sentence which he breached.
