Barbara Barrett: Headingley's Wheatfields Hospice fundraiser retires
A dedicated fundraiser who took part in numerous wacky stunts over 26 years for Headingley's Wheatfields Hospice has retired.

Barbara Barrett, 61, rode pillion on a powerful Goldwing motorcycle, Morris danced through the streets of Horsforth and even drank her first cup of tea for 50 years in order to collect cash for Wheatfields.
"I always loved the warm, caring environment of the hospice and although there have been changes over the years, that same feeling exists today," said Barbara, who stepped down from her duties on Thursday.

Barbara was first introduced to the work of Sue Ryder Care, which runs Wheatfields, when her father was admitted as a patient in 1983 and died the following day. When Barbara returned with donations collected at his funeral, she was told the hospice needed volunteers.
She joined for one day a week, completing tasks like typing and washing donated goods, before becoming a staff member in January 1984.
One of her biggest sacrifices was drinking that cup of tea in 2005, sponsored by hospice supporters.
"It was the one really dreadful thing I did to raise funds for the hospice," she said. "It was disgusting and I haven't had a drop since."
Barbara, who has also helped organise the Yorkshire Women of
Achievement Awards for 20 years, launched the hospice's Lights of Love event in 1997, which now raises more than 20,000 annually and has been adopted by the Sue Ryder Care charity.
Although she is retiring, Barbara will now spend time organising activities at a residential home for people with dementia.
Fundraising manager Rosemary Sheen said: "Barbara is not only a very effective fundraiser but a delightful lady and a great ambassador.
"She knows so many people and so much of our history that her departure will leave a big hole.
"She will be missed but we all wish her well and hope her future will bring her much happiness."
