Alwoodley pupils' safety reflects well on armband donors
Pupils at one Alwoodley school are set to stay safe through the dark winter nights – thanks to two local health specialists.
Eye consultant Norman Litvin, from the Yorkshire Eye Hospital, Apperley Bridge, and optometrist Julian Berson joined forces to donate armbands to children at Brodetsky Primary School on Wentworth Avenue in Alwoodley.
The light-reflecting arm bands have an inner core made from steel which enables the band to be "slapped" around the arm or leg.
The bands can also be used on scooters, bags or bikes.
Brodetsky Primary School headteacher, Simon Camby said: "This safety initiative will help these children be a little safer in our neighbourhood.
"Children are often unaware of potential danger and can't judge speed and distance properly, so it's vital that they get all the help they can to be more visible on the road.
"I would also ask drivers to be vigilant in built-up areas, whether our children are alone or crossing these busy roads with parents.
"I would like to say a big thank you to the Yorkshire Eye Hospital and to Julian Berson for their help."
