West Yorkshire Police have reassured the public after a large number of officers were seen in Farnley today.

They confirmed on social media that a large police presence has been drafted in to search for a wanted man in the area as part of an ongoing enquiry.

They added that there is no wider risk to the public and residents are advised to continue with their daily lives as normal.

The Leeds Outer West neighbourhood beat team confirmed on Facebook that the suspect is Daniel Brown, a 22-year-old who escaped from police custody at St James's Hospital on June 13.

He is white, 5ft 8ins tall, with short, light brown hair.

Brown had been arrested the previous day after being circulated for recall to prison following his release in March from an 18-month sentence for possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence during an incident in June last year.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Leeds District CID via 101 quoting log number 1589 of June 13 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
