Knife amnesty plea made among floral tributes for murdered Leeds teenager

The note with it reads: "If you want to see an end to knife crime in Harehills put yours in here and let the police take it away."

Irfan, 16, died on Friday after being stabbed in Harehills Lane at 3.45pm on Friday afternoon.

He was taken to hospital but died a short time later, police said.

As news of the tragedy spread, Leeds West MP Rachel Reeves tweeted: "My thoughts are with the family and friends of the boy stabbed in Leeds. We must do more to tackle knife crime."

Hundreds of members of the community gathered at the scene of the tragedy and at the nearby Bilal Mosque over the weekend to offer prayers.

Dozens of youngsters also walked from the mosque to lay flowers at the scene of the tragedy in tribute to their beloved pal.

One message among the tributes reads: “Even though you are gone you will never be forgotten.”

Another said: “I can’t believe this has happened. I’m gonna miss you so much.”

Although Irfan's family have been too upset to speak, they have asked that people use the hashtags #JusticeForIffy and #IffysWorld in tribute to the much loved youngster.
