Police are hunting intruders who broke into a house and assaulted a pensioner.

The 70-year-old woman was in bed at the house on Bunkers Lane, Batley when she heard a noise in the early hours of Friday.

She went downstairs with her daughter to investigate and when she was on the first floor landing saw three men had broken into the house.

Two ran upstairs and grabbed her, assaulting her, while demanding property.

They fled when a man living in the house appeared.

Police say the woman was not seriously injured, but was very shocked and upset.

Det Con Richard Brooke of Kirklees CID, said: “This is clearly a very serious offence in which a 70-year-old woman has been assaulted in her own home and it is important we locate the men responsible as quickly as possible

“All three were described as white and wearing dark clothing, and made off in the direction of Abbey Road.

“Fortunately incidents such as this are rare and I would ask anyone who saw three men behaving suspiciously outside the address shortly before the incident, or fleeing in the direction of Abbey Road to contact us.

Anyone with information should call police on 101.
