Human remains have been discovered at a nature reserve near Wakefield.

Police said today that a member of the public had reported finding a small number of bones at the Washlands Nature Reserve near Wakefield, around 9.55am yesterday.

A spokeswoman for West Yorkshire Police said a post mortem examination will take place this evening.

She said: “Enquiries have been ongoing today at the scene and, following detailed examination, it is now thought the bones are human remains.

“A full post mortem will take place this evening and enquiries remain ongoing.”

People around the world are marking Earth Hour this evening. People in Britain are expected to join in at 8.30pm... and then they will switch their clocks forward tonight as British Summer Time begins.

Get ready to turn your clocks forward... but before that expect things to get much darker
