Human remains found near nature reserve

Human remains have been discovered at a nature reserve near Wakefield.

Police said today that a member of the public had reported finding a small number of bones at the Washlands Nature Reserve near Wakefield, around 9.55am yesterday.

A spokeswoman for West Yorkshire Police said a post mortem examination will take place this evening.

She said: “Enquiries have been ongoing today at the scene and, following detailed examination, it is now thought the bones are human remains.

“A full post mortem will take place this evening and enquiries remain ongoing.”
