HORSES had to be rescued from a series of farm buildings that were on fire last night (Saturday).

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said a vet was on the scene of the blaze treating horses that had been kept in a series of farm buildings that were involved in the fire on Hepworth Avenue, Churwell.

Firefighters were called to the incident at 11pm last night and at the height of the fire six appliances from Morley, Batley, Leeds and Hunslet attended, along with Technical Rescue Unit from Cleckheaton, which was used to remove a wall to release animals that were inside one of the buildings.

Officers were still at the site at 9.30am damping down.
