Patients given the gift of life have joined a celebration at a Leeds hospital.

More than 4,000 kidney transplants have been performed at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust over the past 52 years, a milestone marked with an event at St James’s Hospital.

Patients Samera Kauser, Raymond Fox, Hannah Whitaker and John Nellist talked about their experiences and thanked hospital staff.

Mr Nellist said: “If it wasn’t for their hard work and dedication, I wouldn’t be here today. The Renal Transplant Team has given me my life back.”

Consultant nephrologist Dr Chas Newstead said: “It’s really wonderful to celebrate the successes the team has had.”
