Hammer raid on Mirfield Co-op

Hammer-wielding raiders forced terrified staff into the back of a shop as they stole cash from a safe.

Dewsbury CID are appealing for witnesses after the Co-Op store on Huddersfield Road in Mirfield was robbed on Monday, January 10.

At around 9.45pm, two men armed with claw hammers went into the store as staff were closing for the night and demanded cash.

The thieves sent four members of staff into the back of the store and stole cash from a coin safe before leaving in an unknown direction.

No-one was injured in the robbery and the suspects have been described as two white men who were around 5-feet tall.

One was of large build with a chubby face and short blonde hair. He

also had blue to green eyes.

The second was only described as being slightly taller than the first. Both were wearing hooded tops and scarves to cover their faces.
