TRANSPORT secretary Patrick McLoughlin MP officially opened the newly revamped Wakefield Westgate railway station yesterday. (Mon Feb 3)
The station, which has a new £8.6m building, also received a blessing from the Bishop of Wakefield Rt Rev Stephen Platten and railway chaplain Rev Dr Stephen Sorby.
Mr McLoughlin said: “The new station is a fantastic asset for Wakefield. It is bright, vibrant and offers a gateway to the city.”
The new station building at Wakefield Westgate significantly improves facilities for travellers.
It includes easier access for all passengers via the new footbridge and lifts linking the platforms, a new travel centre, first class lounge and standard waiting areas;, four new retailers;, free Wi-Fi from O2 for all station users;, and better integration with local buses and taxis. It is also 71 per cent more energy efficient than the building it has replaced, achieved through natural lighting and a photovoltaic system on the station roof.Government mi
