A devastated girlfriend has told of her heartache after her missing childhood sweetheart’s body was discovered in a river by police.

The body of Ben Clarkson, 22, originally from the Halton Moor area of Leeds, was found in the River Foss, York, on Friday.

Rachel Peatfield, 22, orginally from Whitkirk in Leeds, has been with Ben since they were just 11. She said: “I am truly heartbroken that I have lost the love of my life and I will treasure the fond memories we have made over the past 11 years dearly. No one will ever replace him.”

Mr Clarkson disappeared on March 2, the same weekend that the body of Megan Roberts, 20, of Wetherby, was found in the nearby River Ouse in York.
