Organisers of the family friendly event called ‘More in Common – Celebrating the life of Jo Cox’ say it will celebrate ‘Jo’s warmth, love, energy, passion, flair, Yorkshire heritage and the belief in the humanity of every person in every place.’

Events will take place in several other locations around the world, including New York, Batley and Spen, Brussels, Washington DC, and Nairobi.

In advance of the event in Trafalgar Square, friends from the Hermitage Moorings co-op in Wapping will tow a dinghy laden with flowers and tributes down the Thames, to arrive at the Houses of Parliament at 3.30pm.

A message on a Facebook page set up to co-ordinate the international celebration, said: "On Jo Cox's birthday this Wednesday, show the world that we have far #moreincommon with each other than that which divides us.

Among the events on Wednesday to celebrate the life of Jo Cox, friends from the community mooring where she lived will tow a dingy laden with flowers up the Thames.

"We will gather together in Trafalgar Square to celebrate Jo's warmth, love, energy, passion, flair, Yorkshire heritage, and belief in the humanity of every person in every place, from Batley and Spen to Aleppo and Darayya.

"We welcome all.

"Jo believed that there is more that unites us than divides us, and she was killed for those beliefs. She believed in a love that is fierce, brave and humble. Her death has devastated a family, and attacked the ideals that we as a nation most cherish."

Jo Cox was MP for Batley and Spen and was killed last Thursday in an attack outside Birstall library in West Yorkshire.
