CASTLEFORD swimming pool has today (Tues August 19) re-opened after being closed for more than a week due to flooding.
Flash flooding on Friday August 8 mainly affected the pool’s plant room, but some contaminated water also flowed in to the pool.
Wakefield Council chiefs say all the flood water has now been pumped out of the building.
The water in the pool has been changed a number of times and independent tests have been completed to confirm it is safe to use.
Coun Les Shaw, the council’s cabinet member for culture, leisure and sport, said: “Flood water doesn’t discriminate and like many people across the district Castleford swimming pool was affected.
“Due to the amazing efforts and dedication of staff we’ve been able to get it open again pretty quickly and are looking forward to welcoming people back to the various swimming sessions on offer this week.”
