Female farmers pulled into Briggate with a tractor to profess the qualities of British beef to shoppers yesterday.
The ‘Ladies in Beef’ gave out samples of tendertop steak sandwiches to mark Great British Beef Week and to explain why British beef can be a part of people’s convenience food diets.
Within 90 minutes, some 400 sandwiches had been served to passers-by. The beef came from Wilsons Butchers in Crossgates and Malcolm Michaels butchers in Kirkgate Market.
One of the farmers, Rebecca Miah, said: “Look out for the Red Tractor mark and make sure you buy British beef. Red Tractor guarantees traceability back to the farm.”
