former leeds University student Holliday Grainger was on the red carpet last night for the premiere of The Finest Hours.

Grainger, 27, is best known for roles including Lucrezia Borgia in the Showtime series The Borgias and Estella in Mike Newell’s adaptation of Great Expectations.

The Finest Hours is an American historical disaster drama film about the 1952 United States Coast Guard rescue of the tanker SS Pendleton, after it split apart during a storm off the New England coast.

Grainger plans Miriam, the wife of a hero coastguard officer Bernie Webber.

A closing segment briefly documents the aftermath of the rescue using photographs from the actual events. Two months later, Bernie and Miriam are married and they stay together for 58 years until Bernie’s death in 2009. Webber and his crew receive the Gold Lifesaving Medal.
