Social networking saw a community come together to clean up its environment.

When residents of Ireland Wood held a discussion on Facebook about the poor state of the woods behind Iveson Approach, community campaigner Alex Sobel lept into action and organised a clean-up task force.

The group got together as part of the national ‘Let’s do it’ campaign, which brought people together on September 13 to tidy up their neighbourhoods.

Mr Sobel said: “Litter is an issue that local people mention regularly to me and we’re proud to support Let’s Do It.”

Dr Luke Blazejewski, Let’s do it! UK campaign coordinator said: “We’re delighted that residents in Ireland Wood took part.”
