A superstar cricketing duo made a surprise visit at a local club’s weekly training session.

England cricketers Gary Ballance and Jonny Bairstow dropped into to St Chad’s Broomfield CC, where they passed on top tips to the club’s youth section.

The Yorkshire pair stunned the club who had been told the ECB would be filming a training session for potential new members – but were unaware that this would involve the two stars.

Gary Ballance said: “It was really good fun and always nice to get the chance to come down to a local club. There are some good players in the nets and I was out caught on the boundary off a leg spinner! I was a bit nervous coming down but everyone was friendly. There are players of all ages and they all really seem to love their cricket.”

Club secretary James Bacon added: “It was a fantastic surprise.

“The kids absolutely loved it especially having an opportunity to ask England cricketers questions and bowl at them. In the middle of the season it’s been a real morale boost.”
