TV fans will get special active access to the set of Yorkshire soap Emmerdale when it stages two family-friendly duathlons later this month.
The iconic village set on the Harewood Estate will host a free entry I Am Team GB event as ITV encourages people to get active on August 27.
Duathlons, consisting of a 1km run, 3km cycle and 700metre sprint, will take place in the morning and afternoon before families are given the chance to explore the set and pitch up a picnic.
Meanwhile ITV will switch off its seven channels for an hour on August 27 from 9.30am as it urges viewers to take part in activities nationwide through I Am Team GB – the country’s biggest ever sports day.
Olympic and world long jump champion Greg Rutherford has been lined up to host one of the national I Am Team GB events.
He said: “There are going to be thousands of fun, free events across the country so make sure you sign up, get involved and be part of Team GB.”
The morning and afternoon Emmerdale duathlons are open to anyone aged 14 and over, and the route is suitable for off-road bikes.
The first event will begin at 10am, with registration open from 08.30am, and the second event will start at 2pm, with access to Emmerdale from 12.45pm.
ITV is also due to open up the famous Coronation Street cobbles for activities on the day.
I Am Team GB, organised by ITV and the National Lottery, is set to celebrate the £80million of support raised by National Lottery players that goes to fund elite athletes each year.
