Elderly woman punched in face during Leeds street robbery

A police investigation was under way today after an 80-year-old woman was punched in the face during a robbery in Leeds.

The victim was approached by two men as she walked through a ginnel linking Throstle Terrace and Thorpe Lane in Middleton.

She was attacked and had a bottle of whisky, bank cards and cash stolen.

The incident happened on Saturday but was not reported to the police until last night.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said the woman had been taken to Leeds General Infirmary for treatment.

Her injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.

Police were today carrying out checks in the area where the robbery occurred.
