Driver released on bail after elderly woman dies in Leeds road accident UPDATED

A driver who was arrested after elderly woman was killed in a road accident in Leeds has been released on bail.

The 83-year-old pedestrian was struck by a wagon in Austhorpe Road, Cross Gates, at about 10.50am yesterday (Wednesday). She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said the woman – whose name has not yet been released – came from the local area.

The driver of the wagon, a 43-year-old man from the Wakefield area, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has now been released on bail.

Austhorpe Road was closed for a period following the incident.
