A motorist was rushed to hospital with serious head injuries this evening after his car left the road and hit a tree.

The crash at 7pm at Dawsons Corner, Pudsey, caused delays for traffic heading out of Leeds.

West Yorkshire Police said the driver of the Alfa Romeo was taken to hospital by land ambulance after the crash.

An air ambulance and other emergency services were despatched to the scene and the A647 Stanningley By-Pass Westbound was closed as a result.
