Have your say

You cannot spend any amount of time in Otley without realising that it is home to a great man people who are passionate about cycling.

Its base on the cusp of the Dales makes it a perfect staging point for long-distance scenic rides.

And, ever since it provided such a fantastic staging point for the Tour de France Grand Depart it has served as one of the pivotal destinations for cycle races in Yorkshire.

Weeks ahead of today’s visit by the second ever Tour de Yorkshire race, residents had bedecked the town in bunting for the race to celebrate the event’s arrival.

A variety of flags and official merchandise were complimented by blue bikes laid to rest along the route.

If ever le Tour comes back to Yorkshire, as we so hope it will, you can bet Otley will be a big part of its glorious return.
