SCORES OF cyclists saddled up for the return of the annual Ilkley Cycle Races tonight.

Youngsters, men and women took to the town’s streets last night as part of the thrilling cycling extravaganza.

The challenging 1.5km race, which included a high speed finish on The Grove, was open to both elite cyclists and beginners.

A spokesman for the organisers said the event had been a success. “We had a good crowd, about the same as the numbers who turned out last year for the inaugural event,” he said.

“The weather was good for us but we did have a delay due to an accident and a spot of rain.”

The event included a challenging 1.5km circuit around Riddings Road hill with a high-speed finish along The Grove. There were under-14s, under-16s, women’s and men’s races.
