Bosses at the Wakefield Wildcats have been left scratching their heads after thieves made off with the club’s massive scoreboard.

Officials arrived into work at the side’s Belle Vue home in Wakefield this morning only to find that the huge 20ft display board had been disconnected and stolen overnight.

The club are now working with police in a bid to track the culprits down and are also trying to get a new board in place.

A club spokeswoman told the YEP: “The last staff went home at 8pm on Wednesday and it was still there then.

“But then the next morning it was gone. Whoever has taken it has disconnected the electricals and taken the whole thing. We’d been having some trouble with it and we’d just got it working properly, and now this.

“You couldn’t make this sort of thing up.”

The thieves also stole a large refrigeration unit next to the scoreboard, which is used for the catering units on matchdays and measures around six foot by six foot. Police were due to visit the club yesterday to carry out investigations into the theft.

They are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information to contact them on 0845 6060 606.
