Two suspected loan sharks were arrested in Leeds today.

The pair – a 41-year-old man and a woman aged 40 – were arrested in a joint operation by the England Illegal Money Lending Team and West Yorkshire Trading Standards.

A substantial amount of documentation was also seized.

The suspects remain in custody for questioning.

David Lodge, divisional manger at West Yorkshire Trading Standards, said: “Illegal money lending is a despicable crime which causes nothing but harm in our communities.

“We are continuing to work with the England Illegal Money Lending Team to crack down on this crime.”

Nearly 300 people have been prosecuted for illegal money-lending and related activity following investigations by the Illegal Money Lending Team, leading to more than 189 years worth of custodial sentences.
