POLICE in Bridlington are urging motorists to be on their guard after 22 car crime incidents were recorded in the town over the past two weeks.

Between Monday November 28 and Sunday December 11, police in Bridlington received reports of 17 thefts from vehicles, four vehicles being damaged and one theft of a car.

Almost all of the offences happened between 10pm and 7am and the majority took place in the in the Bempton Lane and Queensgate areas of the town.

Police believed the offences are being committed by opportunist criminals entering cars that have been left unlocked before stealing items from inside.

Police are increasing patrols in the area and are urging motorists to ensure cars are locked.
