A woman suffered a serious head injury after being attacked by a mugger in a ginnel in Leeds.

The 36-year-old was walking along the path off Bismarck Street in Beeston when she was assaulted at about 8.30am on Friday.

She was taken to hospital and treated for head injuries before being discharged.

Police declined to say if anything was taken in the incident or reveal the extent of her injuries.

Det Insp Neil Thompson, of Leeds neighbourhood crime team, said: “This was clearly a very distressing incident for the victim who received head injuries that required hospital treatment.

“We are conducting enquiries to trace the man responsible and would like to hear from anyone who saw the suspect in the area or who has any information that could assist the investigation.”

The robber was black, 6ft tall and slim and was wearing a black jacket and dark trousers.
